HSG264 – Asbestos, The Survey Guide (2nd Edition) – replaces and expands on MDHS100, Surveying, sampling and assessment of asbestos-containing materials. It is aimed at people carrying out asbestos surveys and people with specific responsibilities for managing asbestos in non-domestic premises under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. The book covers competence and quality assurance and surveys, including: survey planning, carrying out surveys, the survey report and the dutyholder’s use of the survey information.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 – came into force on 6 April 2012, updating previous asbestos regulations to take account of the European Commission’s view that the UK had not fully implemented the EU Directive on exposure to asbestos (Directive 2009/148/EC).
HSG248 – The Analysts Guide – provides advice and guidance for analysts involved in licensed asbestos removal and the sampling of asbestos-containing materials. The guidance is aimed at a technical audience, and it combines and updates information from previous HSE publications. Topics covered include: quality assurance; training for analysts; bulk sampling and analysis; air sampling and analysis; enclosures; site certification for reoccupation; supervisory work; personal protective equipment; and decontamination procedures.
HSG227 – A comprehensive guide to managing asbestos in premises – This guidance is aimed at people who have a duty to manage the risks from asbestos–containing materials in the premises, ie building owners, tenants and anyone else who has any legal responsibilities for workplaces.
L143 – Managing and Working with Asbestos – The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has now published the revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) – L143 “Managing and working with asbestos”. The ACOPs L127 (The management of asbestos in non-domestic premises) and L143 (Work with materials containing asbestos) have been consolidated into the single, revised ACOP (L143). This has been updated to make it easier for employers to understand and meet their legal obligations, and to reflect the changes introduced in The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012).
